What kind of corn?

wolfwoman Jan 24, 2006 08:46 AM

Hello all,
I asked this question once before months ago, but I thought I'd try one more time. I have this one corn snake that I don't know what to call. The petstore was not sure of its parents. I find her beautiful, the pale color has a greenish tint to it.
Any guesses would be appreciated!

I honestly think it looks like a jungle corn (king - corn mix). If you know its not, then it looks to be an amel with partial zig zag, or abnormal (can't remember the exact term) pattern. Nice looking snake. I always look for snakes with abnormal patterns. Some jungle corns look exactly like the corn, but with a little "tweak" in their pattern. I am sure someone else with more knowledge would be able to tell you for sure. Good Luck
here are pics of my two jungles

heres the other jungle. They don't look like yours, as they took more of the king look, but like I said, a lot of times, they tend to look just like corns

I got her at an independent pet store in Burlington Vermont.
They buy from a distributor.

Thanks for all you input. I talked to the herp guy at the petstore that I bought her from(in Vermont).
They buy from a distributor and his best guess was a cross between a butter and a creamsicle.
Can I call her a buttersicle? : )

Whatever she is, I think she looks cool!

No you could not call it a buttersicle because that is not actually what it would be. If that is in fact it's herritage then it would be a creamsicle (amelxemoryi) the traits in corns are recessive so breeding a crossing 2 things doesn't necesarilly give you those 2 things.

I was just joking when I said buttersicle! I don't intend to tell people that's what it is. I thought it sounded funny is all! : )

I understand where you're coming from. I could see someone
saying they've created a new morph and trying to sell it.
Genetics make my head spin! I just enjoy my snakes no matter what they are.

keep in mind it may be a hybrid, so if you sell her or her offspring dont label them as pure corns. purists hate when that happens (me too) because then the "pure" cornsnake genepool is polluted and there is a greater demand for wild cought snakes.

Whatever morph you have, he sure is pretty. Could you post the info for the petshop? (Is that permitted??) I'm in Massachusetts, and wouldn't mind taking a scenic drive up to Burlington. I love VT....I'm considering transfering to UVM. If you can't post the info publically, could you e-mail me at: brainydane@yahoo.com ? Thanks.
