Back from the vet

veiledbrian Jan 24, 2006 11:55 AM

Just back from the vet. Mr. was much better this morning but i took him anyways just to make sure he was ok. The doctor said that i was taking incredible care of my chameleon. He weighed in at 123 grams. He told me to bring in a stool sample from all 3 of my chameleons to examine them for possible parasites which could be the reason for the neurological problems he was showing. I'm going to clean and repot my ficus today when i get home from work. The doc said he could see nothing wrong with him. I feel so much better now. And i was really impressed with the doctor.

What neurlogical problems was he showing??

- a bit late in posting, but I am glad there is no health problem. Think thru the light timing and try a few things. I use the timers from HD. Getting him up at 5:00a.m. may just be too early. In nature it is unlikely he would be awake before the sun begins to rise. You mentioned in a post from the first thread that you noticed it one morning before the lights were on - could there be something else that is waking him up? then he would be in the dark and flailing his legs makes sense. Just trying to throw some ideas out.

I am in the Portland area, and wondering what vet you used. Not sure where you are from...thought it was a chance.

Thanks

I believe i wrote at one point that my lights are on from 10 to 12 or 12 to 12. I never turn them one at 5 am. I'm usually not even awake at that time. I live in Michigan so i doubt you will be able to visit my vets office

go to the link in my sig below and you will see several links for vets by state, the ARAV and there is a cool site where REAL people recommendd vets they have been to in different states, not all are covered but worth a look. Which Portland are you in - Maine or Oregon. If Maine I will ask my vet for a recommendation (I live in NH and have a great vet near the ME border. If Oregon, ask Feenie or Reptayls (Morgana) I think they are in OR (or maybe WA). Reptayls is a breeder so could probably help you out. Or just post a message asking for a recommendation in your area. Hope this helps!

Btw, how is Pudge doing??

Thanks for the response. BTW, I live in Oregon. Your vet may be a little to far. I was happy with the one I saw originally, but I think its always a good idea to have another lined up.

Pudge is getting a better...but its is a slow road. She is still being hand feed, which is tough. I feel as if I am forcing life into her. She takes it well...we only open her mouth far enough to get the crix's head in...she does the rest. We also give her about 2 cc's of water at the same time. This way I know she is drinking for sure. She still spends lots of time on the bottom of her cage. I constructed a "table" so that she couldn't get to far away from the light and heat. Her color is good...and changes when I handle her (positive sign???). She is pooping, so i know the food is going through.

I will get some new pics soon. She does have a large spot on her back that looks like retained shed...

It's been a long month, but she is still alive. She's a tough kid.
Thanks for everything.
