My friend has a Asian Box turtle that she may be giving me when she moves. My question is....I have an African Sideneck, will they get along in the same tank?
Thanks,
Annette

maybe, maybe not. I have seen an eastern box take a nip out of the rostrum of a juvenile red foot tortoise because it got to close to the food it was eating.
Not a good idea to house turtles from different geographic areas together. Being exposed to foreign pathogens can make either or both ill. Also, an Asian Box (If you are talking about the Malaysian Box turtle, Cuora amboiniensis) is a semi aquatic animal that should have a fairly substantial land area as well as access to shallow water.
I have never kept African Muds but my understanding is that they are more aquatic and would therefore need a larger water area.
I have kept Cuora Amboiniensis and have found males to be very aggressive towards one another. If yours is a male it may not tolerate the Mud in its tank.
Regardless, in my opinion you’re asking for trouble if you house them together. Better to set up two tanks or just stick with the Mud.
I agree with RFB putting them together is not a good idea. I have two African sidenecks (males) and they are pretty agressive.

Thank you all so much for the information. This is exactly what she wanted to hear! She wants to keep her turtle. Now she has reason too! Long drawn out story. Thanks again!

Annette, in my opinion it is best not to mix turtles from different continents together unless you know both were captive bred in the same country. Also, unless the ideal enviroment of both is the same, it would be unwise to mix them. Is the personalities of the two compatible? If one is very timid or one very dominating, it may be dangerous to house them together. Just some things to think about before you mix them
