Irian Jaya full with eggs but...

jellejanssen Jan 24, 2006 02:30 PM

Please gimme specs under wich you let the eggs hatch.

Last year i had 18 eggs of wich 1 only hatched and died within 5 days, most of the others were fully developped within the egg, but dead in the end..

i had them on 30 to 32 degrees celcius for about 56 days... moisture levels were always above 90%...

any ideas, tips, hints etc?

btw she is way over 2 meter and shed last night... so fingers crossed... 2nd time with eggs and she is about 6 years old now.

Thanx!

Egg husbandry is quite different from snake husbandry. For some, it can be difficult to do well with and with others, it comes naturally. With most folks, it simply takes more experience to get it down pat. But some clutches will partially or completely fail whether it is of our doing or not. And other clutches will hatch well no matter how much you really screw everything up.
One of the most difficult things for me to do is to tell you what you may be doing wrong. I am not there to see your setup myself. And incubators can vary from one to the next. Too many variables. I will tell you we incubate our carpet and scrub python eggs much like they outline at the link below. Take a look. It works well for us with some minor modifications for our individual incubators.

Hey Yasser...that's not a two headed carpet hatching out, is it?

And you're right...sometimes, no matter what we do, it's not our fault. Maybe a bad male, maybe an off day or bad copulation. One never knows......

It's actually a pair of twins. There's two more at the top of the pic. We got the highest twinning rate ever recorded in squamates. 60% of the clutch resulted in twins. 10 eggs and 16 babies!

great, thanx

i could explain a lot of the setup, but then still many variables.

I will try 2 different techniques, a pro incubating machine, like just last year and the other with the water and a heater method and this time all eggs seperated, last year all 18 were clutched...

thanx again!!

btw great snakes!!
