whatever you do dont tell her about the venomous varanids studies being done. Do what I did, just show up at home one day with them and hope you dont get the boot.
what kind of beast are we talkin here?

ah well anyways....

She is afraid that i might get bitten by my monitor. I explained to her that a monitor can become dog tame with proper handling and training techniques... but she thinks that that is a load of buL*****!I am not new to lizard taming at all....and she is aware but she thinks that a monitor is too much for me....COME ON!!!! Im 15 years old...150 lbs.. and 5'11! i will be able to restrain a monitor to some degree to prevent it from biting me (if things ever get that bad)

I have shown her literature stating it and even talked to the LLL REPTILE crew and she believes it to be a load of lies!

Any tips to sway her concrete mind?
(check out my cage i built!)

Start off with something small like an V. acanthurus. Explain that the majority of the goanna species out there are actually quite small. Ackies are smaller than an adult bearded dragon. The smaller species are also vastly less work than the large ones (which are a part-time job in their own right!),

Seeing that you have reptile experience, you should be able to at least have shown her that you are responsible. Is it possible to take her someplace that she could see what you are interested in acquiring? Perhaps as suggested, you could start with a smaller monitor and work your way up? I have ackies and they are so much fun and so cute that you may be able to win her over with one of those. I had to laugh when you complained about moms, I AM the mom in my house and guess who owns all the reptiles...me! Best of luck to you! (do you need me to talk to your mom??? LOL)

well...

see mt mom is afraid that i will get hurt by my monitor onceit gets large....any lizard that is over 3 feet can cause harm, but if it is trained to some degree, it usually wont...she is unwilling to except that fact.

i have showed her the monitors that im interested on..dumerils, savs, and tegus...she has even held a baby sav and didnt mind it...it is when they get large and grow massive teeth..that bothers her, but i have kept many reptiles...frillies, CWDs, BTSs, mellers, and beardies...i am responsible to keep a monitor too!

My dad grew up with iggies...they kept a pair of males in there basement....when they got hormonal they reeked havoc! My dad has scars all over his hands from them! lol! My mom thinks that monitors go throught that phase too, even though they dont!

I have showed her literature, talked to lll reptile employees, hell she has even held one! i dont know how to onvince her of the truth!

If she turns down my dream of a larger monitor, than i will be perfectly satisfied with a smaller acantherus...

Thanks in advance!

Get a big one once you move out. It'll pretty much need its own room! An ackie certainly sounds like the best option for all currently.
