OMG!! Eggs!!!

jamiesbeardie Jan 24, 2006 09:13 PM

My rescue dragon, Sassy, just laid 23 eggs, two of which were flabby and no good. The rest look awesome. 21! But um, will they do okay until tomorrow? I have them in 3/4 vermiculite, 1/4 soil. They are only half covered and I made sure not to turn them over. I really want them to hatch, but I'm not too sure they're even fertile at this point. I can order a hovabator, but what do I do until then?
Really need your help guys! Really didn't want or expect babies.....but I'm ready to do what needs to be done!

Here's the mama when I first got her, resting on me....

I have been breeding beardies for years and I have never used a bought incubator.

You can do a couple different things to make your own.

Use a ten gallon fish tank, 2 bricks, a rubbermaid shoe box with lid, solid plastic for a cover, and a submersible fish tank heater.

placve the two bricks in the bottom and fill the tank with water to a half inch under the tops of the bricks. Put your container of eggs on top of the bricks, place the heater underwater after setting it to the right temp. ( actually you want the heater in before you put the eggs in. Then check the temps with a digital thermometer. The solid plastic must stay on to keep the heat in. Or use styro.

good luck any questions just ask.

peace,
nate

That works but in my experience it is kind of a pain to keep the humidity and temps right, it will hold you over until you can get your hovabator in and set up. Lucky lucky lizard lol....
