question for Jeff & Dave

jloganafcc Jan 25, 2006 12:07 AM

guys,

my pair have been mating almost every other day for hours at a time since mid december. ive only seperated for a few hours to feed.

i moved them into some new animal plastic cages this week, and i decided to try putting them immediatly into the same cage instead of seperating them to let them settle in...and within about 15 minutes they were locked up.

they locked up today around 5 and i had visual confirmation of a lock (pink-n-pink).....well after they were done i noticed a couple sperm plugs on the bottom of te cage, and a couple yellowy smears.

wanted your opinion on what those smears migth be? smelled sort of like urine, do any of your animals urinate regularly after sex? i can understand a cigarette...

thanks!

First off, congrats on the breeding activity, none so far here but I have a later cooling period and have not turned the heat back up.

I have not noticed what you were describing but then again, mine usually trash the cage, water bowls spilled, liners all bunched up, hides tipped over etc. etc. etc. I even keep all the water bowl levels MUCH lower at breeding time so I don't have as much to claen up.

Probably one of two things, a little urates or maybe a little post coital discharge.

I have been really good at weekly feedings this winter and they are huge, larger than they've ever been. Looking forward to some very large litters!!
