Just wondering what black milk owners prefer to do when they want to breed? I tried just putting them together last year, but nothing. This year I am cooling them. What is the best way?
Any suggestions? Btw, I have 1.2 BIG adults.

I have always cooled mine using the normal colubrid recipe (cooled November through the end of February) and have been successful.
I have been told by other breeders that they have bred black milks successfully without cooling, but I have never tried this.
Mine have waited until after the female has had her second shed after brumation, so be patient and keep pairing them up each time the female sheds.
Good luck.

Brumation should not be necessary, though apparently it's not harmful either. If you go to a weather website and look at a high altitude location in Cosat Rica, like San Jose, there is no seasonal variation in temperature... it's lows around 70, highs around 80 year round. That close to the equator, the days and nights are always about the same length, too. I didn't do anything special with my gaigeae last spring; in fact, I had planned to wait another year to breed just to be on the safe side. But, the female swelled up with ova, and the male went off feed... they were big enough, so I let them go at it. I put them together about 5 or 6 times over the course of 2 weeks, and got a perfect clutch of 6 eggs, no slugs. Maybe yours just weren't ready last year... what was their age and size?
