RDR to the rescue!!! Thanks Ralph!

JM Jan 25, 2006 05:01 PM

Most of you know that I have a pair of late 02’ het pieds I really hoped would breed last year. They didn’t. I hoped they would breed this year~ they haven’t. Apparently my male is LAZY (or queer?) and he just will not breed my het female or the other females I have set aside for him.

Well~ here it is January~ all my other males are breeding like there is no tomorrow~ but NOT my het pied male! I was starting to panic some. I didn’t know what to do~ I needed a het pied male~ that could breed this season~ from a source I could trust enough to put my most valuable animal (the het pied female and several other females) in with before a proper quarantine could be established.

I wrote Ralph asking for help.

He sold me an adult proven het pied male~ “Larry” (we named him Larry~ get-er-done!!!). For a darned reasonable price too~ considering it would not have cost Ralph anything at all to leave me in the lurch this year and ensure there were a few less BPs produced for sale this year.

Thanks so much Ralph!!~

Larry at work~

That's awesome!

Produce some pieds! That's the reason why I got into balls, to produce my very own pieds. Can't wait to see photos of those babies.

G'luck!

congrats on the breeding. Just one question, in that first pic it looks as though there is a tick right where the tails meet? It does not look like a spur, maybe i'm just tired and seeing things though.

I looked and looked at those pics~ and I don't see a tick. I pulled both snakes out and looked. There is not a tick. I made my husband help me take pics of both snakes tails from both sides to show you~ there is NO TICK. Niether of those snakes are imports, they are both Captive Born and Bred~ the female has been in my collection since September 2002, the male came from RDR as an 00' PROVEN het pied male (he would have to be CBB for that)~ NONE of the snakes in my collection are recent imports, and there are NO TICKS HERE.

The only thing I can think that your seeing is the shiny scale on Larry's tail in the pic~ the tail on top? That's just a shiny scale due to the flash I used when taking those pics. This top pic is Larry's tail about 5 min ago when I yanked him out of a tub I *hoped* he was working another girl in and took pics of his tail

And this pic should be Zha-Zha's tail~ also taken about 5 min ago

I don't imagine your post was intended to sound derogatory~ but I take the accusation that there are TICKS in my collection very seriously. There are no ticks.

I was definately not saying that as a insult or anything like that. I've gone back over the pics and can clearly see that what I thought was a tick is a abnormally shiny scale that is a little greyish in color. the quick glance i took earlier made me think it was a tick. I do appologize as nothing was meant by it. Hey maybe you can sell his babies as het for shiny scale . I'm sure there is someone out there that would buy into it, lol jk. Best of luck with that guy, I have to wait till next year for some pieds, but my het pied male from RDR is breeding alot of my normal girls this year so he'll know what to do next when it really counts, lol.

Thats cool. I hope yours prove out easier than mine!

I know I reacted a bit sharply. I've had a very bad week....month....year so far! Everything to do with life and not much to do with snake, so my first thought was "Oh my God!! Not the snakes too!!!" And then when I yanked everyone out of their tubs~ inspected them thouroughly, and then started thinking ~ well......this is dumb~ there can't be any ticks here~ no recent imports.....no recent additions except the snake from RDR~ which I have moved snakes into HIS quarintine area and not him into my collection.......add a couple drinks and another crappy day.........

I know you were not trying to be derogatory.....just my over-reaction to a question.

I hope everything your breedings~ and week, month....and year so far go better than mine have!

Good luck! I'm really hoping Larry is a good omen for a turn around on my recent less than good luck around here!!

well other than my het pied from ralph no other males will breed for me this year, and he was a late starter. I had to put my 3 yr old het albino with him to get the ball roling and now I think the het albino may be gay, lol. When I mixed the two males, the male albino everted his hemipenes all around the cage, crawled onto my het pied fought a little and tried to copulate. So I quickly seperated and put a female in with both, only the het pied reacted the way I wanted, the het albino went quickly to his hide and he stays there now no matter which female i put in his cage. My Citrus ghost hit the 650 mark so I put him with a female and I'm getting nothing. So I'm waiting another 2-3 weeks and the females I put aside for him are going with the het pied, if nothing else i'll have alot of 50% het pieds to work with in a few yrs, lol.

Hey Cheryl - Congrats on getting a breeder! Thats good to hear that Ralph could help you out. This late in the season you would have been really taking a chance otherwise. Best of luck with Larry (just remember he's gonna need a break every now and then ) And we'll keep our fingers crossed for your clutch of pieds!
