brumation question

onenicesnake Jan 25, 2006 06:49 PM

I was doing my monthly "wellness check" on my snakes yesterday (thats where I take them out and weigh them to see how they are doing.)And I noticed something interesting. All of my snakes in brumation have actually gained weight.( one female pueblan as much as 10 grams according to my records)and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well. I would think they would lose weight seeing as though they are not eating and havent for some time.If anyone has experienced this or has a possible explination I would welcome your thought on the subject.

Probably turning stored fat into muscle and bone. Your doing it right! I may heat mine up early, they have lost a lot of weight. I've got them in the attic( I have easy access from my loft) but with this unseasonably warm January their temps are getting up to the low 60's some days.
