how big do garter snakes get?

I recently purchased two garter snakes from a local petstore. Their about two feet long right now and I was wondering about how big they will get. Their both black with a few green stripes going down their back. Thanx

it really depends on the exact subspecies if you can find out what you have you can get a better understanding, sorta sounds like a eastern garter to be but who knows
