help male wont breed

peach749 Jan 25, 2006 09:54 PM

hello everyone I was wondering if anyone new how to encourage a male to mate. in the past I have had great proven breeders. this year I have a male that I'm trying to mate. he is not proven and is almost 17 months old. his problem is he will jump on the female bite a there neck maybe once very lightly and the he kinda gets lost. he fleer's his beard up but he doesn't head bob nor does his beard get black. is there anyway to get this guy fired up and wont to mate. I was told by someone on here to put a mirror on the outside of his cage once he gets upset and fired up from seeing another male then introduce the female. of course you wont be able to do this for to long I wouldn't wont to stress him out. so if anyone can help please do.

Have you tried a week together, a week apart, a week together and then separate and wait? Other than that I'd almost try another male outside his cage instead of a female. If that all fails force him into a short brumation, when he comes out he'll want to get the job done.

well thanks for the help but the way I have always done it is male alone and not able to see any other dragon. then when I introduce a female 99% of the time with in 10 min he mounts her and gets the job done. I have never left then in for a week or any extended period of time. today he is showing more signs of aggression toward the female he's attempting to bite her neck more and he is flaring up more. I do have a second tank beside his with my prize male in it. I have paper taped up there so they cant see each other. do you think I should take the paper down for a day or 2?
thanks again

That could fire him up.
