Pastels?!?!?!

MotaRaider Jan 25, 2006 11:06 PM

I have a pastel male ready to breed at the end of the year. Is the market going to completely fall out on pastels. I personally dont care if it does because i ultimately want a Super Pastel, but i would like to sell the babies if i could. What does everybody think pastels will be worth later this year, and next year?

YES, id really like to know where tha number came from too. Ive talked to some of the top breeders in the nation and they dont think the price will drop that much.

Why wouldnt they say the prices arnt going to drop, arnt they the ones selling them?! I wouldnt go to a farmer and expect them to tell me that the price of cows is high right now, but next year, its going to be down alot. Thats crazy.

I was thinking more like $283.17. As much as I'm not really in the market for another snake, I'd give at least $272.45 for a really nice pastel.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

they will be less than what they are now but more than the food bill to produce them, males probably in the 300-500 range and females probably in the 750-1000 range. Those are guesses based on the previous market prices and the abundant numbers being produced. Just think you can already buy not so pretty pastel males for $450 so that isn't much of a drop. Perhaps if people were selective about the females they bred their males to there wouldn't be as many of the so-so pastels produced which would cause the prices to be a little more stable. Just my .02 worth.

Pastels have been fairly popular in part due to their relative low price and because they give breeders a chance to show a "morph" at the first breeding. Some people have been mass-producing pastels and soon (if not already), the market supply will exceed demand. I think everyone should have a pastel in their collection, but I think if you are planning to get one for the sole purpose of or emphesis on selling them, then you might want to reconsider. If you are planning on trading the offspring, reconsider. By all means, produce a super or two and mix that with other morphs. My prediction: males - $250, females - $500-600, by 2008.

If you look at previous sales over the last two years it has not droped that much. A lot of what your seeing for sale are borderline pastels that have really "browned out"!

dumje Jan 26, 2006 09:50 AM

REALITY...at the begining of the year...the 1st babies will be selling around $500 for the males and $1000 fro females.

Come august the males will drop to that $250 range and females should stay around $1000

If i have any females...if I cannot get $1000 for them...I will keep them and sell my normal females...based on that...the females will retain thir price. for a few more years.

Yes, I see your point but I think there is a lot of variability in pastel lines from the pics I've seen. The quality should have a lot to do with the price. After all Supers are still from 5 to 8 thousand and some pastels I think are borderline super.

toshamc Jan 26, 2006 11:33 AM

There will always be a market for pastels - now that they have reached pet prices the market will expand for those that just want a nice looking or non-normal pet snake (or so the runor goes). As it's been pointed out there is a flood of pastels on the market from people that just puppy milled them - so eventually it's going to come down to quality - who's got it and who's selling browners. I see the average pastel male being somewhere in the range of $300 by the end of this year, $400-$500 for something with quality and a name behind it. Females I think will hold at around $700-$800 - you could probably still get $1000 for a real nice looking female tho. With all that said and done - I will bet you'll be able to pick up a few males for $200 a pop at Daytona and Anaheim.

I am not saying any prices.......some of you don't know what the prices really are for stuff right now......

case in point...dude here got a het amel from Cali for a cheap $200 plus shipping......wow......while he told e this I showed him 4 year old male for that price..and babies for $100.......duh.......he dumb.,.

anyways..as for pastels........I love them and will own alot of them..hey..sell out the normal girls and keep pastels and all (other stuff too).......

they will always be worth breeding.......and mix well with other colors......make money on balls with selling only normals and at $30........

and....how many people do you know that oike pastels and have not got one yet?........

"reached pet prices "....not yet......burms did but not pastels.......

........and?.what is a "browner" with a name behind it worth?......LOL......the name is worth squat ......less actually.......I don't buy names anymore......they did badly........

and my "Bell line" first of the year number 1 born beautiful male that was sooo pretty.....is brown to me now.......and I still love him .......I'll love his kids better after he makes me supers and bumbleeeees...
...etc.....

anyways..........

**(not posted under Tosha's post for any particular reason.just put it here )..have fun.......
