Does everyone else power feed their females after the boar lays it to them? She bred right at the first of the year and she's still chowing down..Usually slows up around 6 weeks and stops feeding completely until laying. But I pound it to them early..

I feed them according to my rat/mice supply. A lot of times the females are so worn out from breeding that they dont eat.
But I do offer them a smoke...Usually unfiltered.
After all, you have to be kind. Meaness gets you nowhere

carl, good question. my succinct answer would be, 'slender is better' where [all] gravid females are concerned. a maintainence diet will not only suffice but it'll be much, much easier for her down the road when the big day comes. if you let her get too fat, you'll be doing her a great dis-service & may possibly lose her & the clutch. best of luck.....

I've always increased my female snakes feedings after they have bred. These were milks, kings,bulls, and racers. I usually feed them 50% more food than a strict maintenance diet.

Quality of food is what counts enough calcium and vitamins to make good eggs.

i shouldn't have said 'maintanence diet'. my point actually was just not create a FAT female while she's in gestulation. that will just cause problems [binding], while a less full figured female will breeze thru the process & come out of it hammering her food again. this has been my experience for what it's worth.......
