Ideas for a new lizard please...

evinrudesmom Jan 26, 2006 05:02 PM

Hi I am looking into getting a new lizard. I already have a bearded dragon and have experience in other various herps. I want something I can handle because I bring my pets to schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and various functions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch
Cody

Hello:
Blue-Tongue Skinks (Tiliqua scincoides sp.) are great for taking to classrooms and can be quite gentle. They are hardy and not very prone to stress which makes them good candidates. They are also large enough without being unwieldy to be impressive. Australian species tend to be more even tempered than those from New Guinea and surrounding territories.
Another good choice though considerably smaller is the African Fat-Tail Gecko (Hemitheconyx cauduicinctus). These are very gentle geckos for the most part and are equally calm and easy to care for.
Good Luck in whatever you choose. I'm sure others here will have lots of great suggestions.
Have a Great Day!!! Good Luck!!!
