question about feeding hoggs

riddick13 Jan 26, 2006 06:09 PM

i got a female hogg that about 5 foot or so. she seems to be a picky eater. how often should i feed her, the rest of my snakes eat every 5-7 days but the hogg seem to only want to eat every 10 days or so and medium rats only. i want to try to breed her this year and want to make sure she'll have enough weight on her and also make sure she'll health. any advise would be great i have very little experience with hoggs and due not know if this is normal for them. thank you for any advise.

I have 1.2 hogs and they are all very aggressive feeders. I would not worry too much, if she is eating every 10 days and not regurgitating or anything she should be fine. Some snakes are just picky like that.

I have 1.1 Hoggs and my female is an eater she will eat anything anytime if I let her, My male though he is a little more restrained he will eat every 7 days for two or three weeks then skip a week. As long as she is looking healthy I would not stress. I understand the health issues with you wanting to breed but also if you over feed she could become fat and that is not healthy either. I have found it is best to let the snake make the determination as to its feeding needs.
