Is this okay to do?

Dope Jan 26, 2006 10:43 PM

So I have been having trouble getting my new ball eat, I tried to feed live today around 7PM and he didnt take. I thought I saw some where or read some where that you can put a dead mouse in the tank. So I killed the mouse and left it in ther aruond 9 ish and in 10 min. the mouse was gone and he had shedded. It was really weird. SO my question is, was it okay to leave his food in there? Someone told me that if I do that he will mistake my hand for food. I am just happy that after 3 weeks he ate.

Alot of people will say that if you feed in their cage it will condition to feed. However, if you're only feeding once a week, and changeing the water daily, cleanig the cage, and handleing; dont you think it will be conditioned not to expect food? If its only getting food 1 out of every 7-10 times your in the cage a week theres no reason it should make the mistake. Once plus of feeding outside of its cage is not haveing to worry about it ingesting bedding.. but thats a whole other story...

wow this is soo cool. I had another mouse in a cage and after he ate and shed, I decided to try with another one. Well he must have been hungry, as soon as I put the dead mouse in the tank he left his brancha and came right over to the mouse. This was at 1 am so I was trying to contain my excitement. It was funny, he had trouble figuring out which end was the head, it took him about 10 min. before the started to eat him. Then he just like swallowed it down. It was cool. In the mornign tho, I looked at his poop and I saw one little tiny brown thing moving around his poop. I just picked upl that surronding area(poop, substrate and all) and threw it away. Should I be concered with that little brown thing? I hope its not mites or what ever. If it is, what do I do? Thaks a lot guys for all your help

If its a mite, you'll see them moneig around on him,a nd buttowed in around its head. I would personally take it to a vet and have it wormed.
