Still have no answer....eggs

xblackheart Jan 26, 2006 11:48 PM

I was wondering if anyone had a pic of fertile eggs and bad eggs, so I could compare them. Also, I was wondering how the whole egg process went. I have a female beardie that lays eggs. I need to know when a good time to introduce her to a male. Do the females produce the eggs inside, breed to fertilize and then lay. Or do they breed first, make the eggs and then lay. Basicall, if the female has eggs stored(being made) in her, will the male be able to fertilize, or does he have to fertilize before the egg making? Hope I didn't confuse anyone. Thanks for any info.

I don't have any pics anymore but candle them, if they're fertile they'll have veins. Breed first then make eggs then lay.

Thank you very much. That helps. I will check next time. This next clutch should be infertile because she has been away from the male, but she is getting pretty big. According to her owner, she "throws eggs" every three months or so, with about 20-30 eggs in each. So, she gets calcium to help balance that. Is there ever a time when "virgin" male dragons can't figure out how to mate? Mine puffs his beard, turns it black, dances, but thats it. Even when the female did arm waves, he never tried to mount her. Is it better to keep them together for long periods? When I did that, they never seemed interested in each other, except when I first introduced them. I mean they were nice to each other, just not into the breeding. Would it be better to just introduce these two together during the day and seperate them at night? Thanks again for the help

They can store sperm for up to a year so I wouldn't count on them being infertile just because she hasn't been with a male for a little while. When I breed them I put them together for a week, separate for a week, back together for another week and then separate for good, that works about 99% of the time. You may not see them mate, some dragons don't like to be watched, others don't care if there's a cheering section lol.
