What type of Uro to get?

beardiedude Jan 27, 2006 11:18 AM

hey guys,

I recently built an outdoor desert cage...it is pretty nice i think...lots of big rocks and scattered branches and a few plants...i have been thinking of putting some sort of uro in this masterpeice...

i live in sunny san diego....the lowest it ever reaches is just at freezing at night...in the summer it reaches about 105! is there any uro that i could keep outdoors year round?

My cage is 6 feet long 4 feet wide and 2 feet tall...i figure that any uro could be kept in there, but im looking for a begginer species..i would like to keep egyptians or malis...i know that egyptians are not the easiest to keep but i have good experience with herps...i have kept mellers chams, frillies, beardies, BTSs, CWDs, and even horned lizards for a while...

i would also like to know what you feed your guys and how often you feed them...

i will post pics of the cage later on today...

Thanks in advance!

well hello san diegan, i just moved from there.

it is really nice there all the time, comparatively, but unless you did some type of brumation i think you would have to bring the lizard in in the winter time.
even at night in the summer time it gets a bit cool
i know 105 is hot but their basking temps need to be at least 120

read a little at deerfernfarms.com he has a really awesome caresheet and he gives descriptions of each type of uro. egyptians get really large. malis are great and don't get as big

not to discourage your wonderful cage, perhaps it could be used as his or her summer sunning spa

I have been doin some research lately and am really not sure if i plan on getting one. I thought that there diet was like a 75% vegetables and a 25% insect diet....TOTALLY NOT! like 95% veggies and 5% insects..

ah well i'll find a use for it!
