I do reptile rescue on the Oregon Coast. Today someone from 10 miles inland found a 2-3 foot albino corn snake and brought it to me. It appeared to have mites but on closer inspection its been attacked by something. Lucky for this snake it appears that the villian was probably one of our crows. He seems to have multiple surface injuries the worst of which is his tail. The last inch and half appear to be chewwed down to meat and bone. The last 3/4 inch looks dead. I've contacted the vet and have treated him with warm baths, betadine and neosporine. My vet wants to try treatment before we have to remove the tail tip. Amazingly the snake doesn't appear to be sick inspite of the temps in the low forties and below. We have the usual bunch of cats, dogs, birds of prey and racoons all of which would have disposed of this snake. My best guess is the crows were to blame. Just wanted to post this because its interesting and I'll post again on his recooperation. Tough little guy!
