Red mold/bacteria?

invisiblemarker Jan 27, 2006 09:07 PM

I was cleaning out my two geckos tanks today (one leo; one african fat-tailed) and I noticed a redish hue to the paper towels in their wet hides and a redish slime in their water dishes after I wipped them out.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be or how to approch it? I suspect it might be something my crickets brought in.

I live in Alaska, so this time of year is dry. Both my geckos have paper towel substate with a heating rock, heating pad, dry hide, wet hide, water dish, and UV light.

I appricate any comments on this matter.

I'm not sure about alaska cause it's kinda cold, but generally I wouldn't use a heat rock. It will burn thier bellies. As for the red slimey stuff in the humid hide and the water dish, that's algae. i'm not sure if it's ingested if it's harmful but I wouldn't take that chance.
