keeping beardy's together---please post your experiance

TonyZ Jan 27, 2006 11:31 PM

i am interested in hearing about first hand accounts, did it work for you, if not what size/age did it become a problem?
if it does work for you why, is it something in your caregiving or the individual personalities of the dragons themselves?
i would like to hear from those of you that have actually tried this to get an acurate acount of what works and what doesnt
thank you
Tony

I for one wouldn't suggest keeping beardies together because of my own personal experience with my adult pair. I took my pair in not knowing anything about beardies which was a mistake in the first place but it was better than them dying since I was willing to learn what it took to keep them happy and healthy. I was told that my pair were both female when I was given them but when breeding season hit I found out that they were male and female, thankfully I'm friends with everyone that works at the pet store that I purchase all my supplies from so they were nice enough to give me a tank to house one of my beardies in instead of giving one of them up. I learned the hard way and I'll never house any of my reptiles together again unless I'm breeding and thats only for short periods of time while I'm watching them.

was it just unwanted breeding or was he being to hard on her?

I keep two females together. The first night they were together in the same cage, there was a lot of head bobbing, but no fighting. They don't fight at all. If I had a male, then I'd keep him separate except for breeding. Both of my females are a year and a half old and sleep together at night. They are always basking together and neither seems phased that the other is living with her.

nice pic it reminds me of my two. my girl Liela is always rideing around on Thorns back. i would hate to seperate them if i dont need to, so far no problems they eat together, bask together and even curl up and sleep together. im just woried that with thorn comeing of age that i will have to seperate them, any ideas on what kind of behavior i should look out for to know if his mood is changing to much?
thanks
Tony
