Chip can climb now lol

PHRatz Jan 28, 2006 10:36 AM

I turned my back on Chip for like 2 minutes last night as I watched the dog eat & lost him for a few minutes.
Our dog won't eat if nobody watches him.. he's not like spoiled or anything. lol
I'm watching Chip walk around on the floor as I watch the dog, I turned my back & then I couldn't find Chip.
I looked all over the turtle proofed area couldn't find him. Then I spotted him, he was up on the couch walking around exploring everything. I couldn't believe it. LOL

I know how he got there though, he walked up the dog ramp. The other boxies have done this in the past but for some reason I didn't expect it from Chip just yet.

He's doing so well, I just can't get over it & most exciting is that he's eating a lot of appropriate turtle foods now, not so much dog food.
For now I still offer dog food along with salads, worms, other things he should have. A lot of days he eats all the stuff he should & leaves the dog food alone. If I could just get him to eat the dusted crickets I'd stop offering dog food at all.
I'm sure when spring arrives & he sees the other boxies eating their bugs outside, he'll do the same. By then we can forget the dog food totally.

Can you dust the other stuff like the salad and the worms?
I wonder how many times he sniffed at the ramp before he got the courage to finally make the climb, lol. He saw you weren't looking and said 'now's my chance..'

I'm going to have to start trying to. Dog food is so full of vitamins & minerals I kind of didn't really worry about it as long as he was eating that. His vet says he can stay on the dog food for as long as he needs to through this winter because we need for him to eat. After this winter is over I really think that because he's recovering so well that by springtime when he gets to go outside for plenty of sun he'll leave the dog food behind when his life seems more normal to him again.

I don't know about how many times he sniffed lol but I'll tell you for one who was so badly broken at the end of Oct. I can't get over how fast he can move now!
Sometimes when I'm readying his cage to put him to bed he'll be behind his favorite table before I go to do that then I'll come to collect him & he's way over in the other room.
Yes he's still living in a cage but it has a deep bottom that he can't see through & it's easy to heat on one side for him so he's just going to have to stay there until spring which is close for us. By March the Bermuda grass will green up again so he'll be going outside a lot in about 6 weeks for sun & food.
He's such an awesome little guy, his will to live has just blown me away!
