It won't hurt a thing if you want to try that. My turtles always eat in their holding tank on cleaning day. Feeding them outside their home does help to keep the water cleaner so if you want to try it, go for it.

ok, so i bought my turtle yesterday, should i wait till tomorrow to try and feed him? and is 74.9 a good basking temp or is that to low?

Thats to low of a basking spot. The ideal basking temp. should be between 86-92F. the water temp should be cooler, around 80 give or take a degree or two. Also, when I feed real young turts, I start them off with gut loaded crickets. get some forcepts and try to offer them a cricket, they tend to go for live stuff be for they will eat the floating sticks and whatnot. Also add some live plants or leafy greens this can also help. I use HBH turtle bites for the babies and floating cichlid pellets then feed the adults the T Rex stuff, its great because it wont foul the water in ten min. I dont remove the young turts to a feeding tank because it seems to me that it takes them longer to start eating because of being so exposed. It does work with most tho. Dont loose hope and good luck!
