couple of cage building questions

classdwhite Jan 28, 2006 02:01 PM

ill soon be starting my build of either a 5x2 or 6x2 cage for my boa. i have 2 questions. can i use 3/4" plywood to make the box for the cage or should i make a frame using 1"x2"s then attach the plywood to the outside of the frame? im thinking that maybe over time without framing the plywood may warp or even as time goes on and my boa gets bigger and stronger he maybe able to bust out of it? any thoughts? also, i planned on using malamine (sp?) for the floor. is it ok to use flexwatt on the melamine? will it catch fire? thats my main concern.

I would watch using plywood just b/c there could be some ever green wood in it. Use Melamine for the entire thing. you can buy a 8 X 4 sheet of it or Home Depot has shelving that is 8 foot by 15 1/2 inches wide. It will look good (better than plywood) and it does not need to be stained. If you are going to use any kind of wood use a pure hard wood like oak.
