Morph Question??

reptilelocators Jan 28, 2006 07:20 PM

when determining a morph or new morph what are the key factors to look for......For example what do you look for in an imported/CB produced animal that appears to be very dif. in color and pattern like to be able to say with out a doubt this is this or this is that or it's just a plain normal...??? the ball in the pic i think is a burgundy?

Thanks

You need to be quite familiar with normal ball pythons. Then when you see a bunch of imports, you can scan over them quickly and make a judgment call that none, one, or some show something that isn't quite what you expected from a normal. Albinos and pieds are pretty obviously abnormal. Some others are not.

Once you've picked out some possibilities, you have to breed them through at least two generations to see whether the abnormality can be reproduced. Some can, and some cannot.

As for what you have, all I can say is that it is a ball python.
