good feeding schedual?

Dime Jan 28, 2006 10:27 PM

ok, i have a baby RES about the size of a toonie, i fed him one cricket like 10 minutes ago, i am going to the pet store tommorrow and am going to pick up some new stuff. i am thinking about crickets, bloodworms, and mealworms and guppies as staples, thne some pellets when he gets older.
would that be good food or will it be to much protein etc etc.
thanks!

I would reverse that. Give the pellets as his staple and then
offer other foods in between. Since he is a baby you want to
make sure that he is getting everything he needs as far as
vitamins and such. I raised my now 6 years olds this way and
have never had a problem. The key is not overfeeding. Turtles
act hungry all of the time. After they get to know their
keepers they beg just like dogs would. It is hard to resist
them.

I am also raising my hatchling painted turtle this way and
he seems to be thriving.

Good luck
Linda
