Blacktail or unicolor?

jonasgn Jan 29, 2006 07:19 AM

Hello
I have a 1,5 meter cribo and i don`t know if it is a BT or unicolor. The tail is a little darker than the rest of the body, but not black at all. It is just a darker brown.
I have seen many pictures of both species and on most of the BT pictures, they have got very black tails, but not all of them. And i have seen unicolor pictures were they have tails a little darker than the rest of the body.
So i`m a little confused, can you guys help me out?
The snake is a male buy the way.

Thanks a lot

Jonas

I am somewhat new to dry's, but from what I have learned so far... there is no definite answer to your question. Both of these species goegraphical areas overlap, so there is some integration. Sounds like what people refer to as "brown tails". Personally, this sounds more like a unicolor than a black tail though, as BT's have a very black tail.
Anyone, please jump in if I am misinformed.

This is one of my Black Tails. She is CBB from a much respected breeder in North Carolina.

Her mate (also CBB) and also from N.C. is twice her size and has a black tail. I have seen tan, brown, and black all with the same Facial Characteristics markings and counts. I would have to believe this sub integrates freely across boundaries with black, brown, and tan results.
