Incubator question

metalpest Jan 29, 2006 10:34 AM

I got some Hovabator incubators to incubate my king and milk snake eggs in, but I'm not so sure about the temperature. I placed a digital thermometer that also reads humidity inside and turned it on, then proceded to adjust it. When the digital read 84 F, I checked the installed thermometer on the bottom of the incubator and it only read 80 F. So which one should I go by? I was told to set the installed thermometer to 82, but according to the digital one, 80 is actually too warm, unless one of them is off. It didn't feel all that warm in there either. What should I do to get the right temperature? I don't want to kill the eggs.

Thanks

Nick

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper stored up acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. And then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus stole all his acorns, and he got a race car. Is any of this sinking in?

get a good glass thermo either alcohol or mercury. then place a small cup of water in the hova place the thermo in the cup and close the lid wait about an hour and then check it against the digital.
also in the instructions for the digi was their a way to calibrate it mentioned?
if not trusting go with the glass merc thermo they are the most reliable.
p.s. once you know the diff between the digi and glass you can still use the digi for easy reading without opening the cage just remember the diff.
