Feedback for Freedoom Breeder Display Cages LRG DSC

crodgers Jan 29, 2006 11:31 AM

Checked the archives and this forum to no avail concerning Freedom Breeders display cages. I am concerned about the security of the 3" removable plastic tray. I plan to house prasina and welcome any feedback.

My main concern being- Is it escape proof with a sagging? removable plastic tray, which will be weighed down by substrate and a water bowl.

Thank you all for your time & contributions

I don't keep Elaphe prasina nor do I have any of the FB display cages. However, I have one friend who keeps E. prasina and another contact who uses the RB cages (for Chondros). I keep Rhyncophis and other Asian ratsnakes and have a decent idea of what they are capable of.

My educated guess is that the FB cages are a poor choice for this species. But if you have another species that could go in the FB cages it might be worth trying, assuming the room where the cages will go is escape proof.

Thanks for your reply. The Freedom Breeder display cage is attractive to me because of its size (W48* D26* H30) also customizable to 3' high with tinted side glass. With it I would be able to install a radiant heat panel from the top and set up a nice semi-arboreal environment.

The 3" removable tray is useless to me and just doesn't make any sense. If you have a display cage then there will be a lot of decor resting on that tray weighing it down. What good is a cage that cannot contain or has such a week link?

However I’ve yet to see a better display cage. Animal Plastics is a great company but you can't really see the animal in their non-rack designs. It's like a black plastic box but I guess that's the way it has to be with an all plastic cage. Big Apple Herp is getting there with their acrylic cages but WILL NOT take responsibility or accepts a return for broken arrivals. An expected situation for such a large acrylic cage.

If i can get a hard look at one, i might just discard the 3" tray, cut a piece of melamine for the bottom, and sacrifice the 3". Anyways, I’m sure that's more than you intended to read. Thanks again.
