aggressive frog

estherk Jul 25, 2003 08:25 PM

I have two WTF. one of which has become very aggressive toward the other even though it is smaller (not by much). a few days ago they got caught up while hunting a cricket (they both went for the same cricket and the smaller one got the larger ones leg instead of the cricket). Now the smaller one seems to be actively hunting the larger one. the aggressive one is sheading so i think he might be uncomfortable or something of that sort. i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to cause this to stop.
i have checked my conditions and they are all fine, 20 gal tank (they are still small), 70-75 temp, 45% humidity fresh water and paper towel substrate. i have added a few plastic plants to add more hidding space incase they are just seeing to much of each other. i'll be adding a little more permanent hidding places (bark) in a bit, once i get a holding tank for them while the glue dries and such
if anyone has any advice for me that would be great!!!
thanks in advance
esther k.

mine tend to become very territorial at feeding time, if my 2 males r both looking at the same cricket and one eats eat before the other can, the other will usually bite him! just monitor the feeding and make sure both get the same ammount of food.

First of all, I certainly HOPE your frog is shedding. They shed everyday, and eat it. You may try feeding them seperatly, and make sure the aggressive one is fed very well. That will keep him from wanting to eat his cage mate. Some may say 20 gals is too small, but I have a large WTF in a 20 long, and it is way too big. She only stays on one side. Adding more shelter is a great idea. WTF are very very... weird eaters. I wouldn't say AGRESSIVE.. but mine ate a HUGE Anole. And she bites me if I don't move fast enough and tounch her back, b/c she thinks I am feeding her. Anywho, I hope some of those tips help. Keep us updated!!
