Cocoa Butter Lotion helps with the shedding of skin!

chamcham505 Jan 29, 2006 06:24 PM

Hey guys,

Of course, one of my humidifiers blew a fuse and was beyond repair, so I'm going to have to purchase a new one this week. So Capuchi was without a humifier for 1 week, and luck has it that he starts shedding. I spray him down immensly, but he had another bad shed. I was looking through my cabinet after giving Capuchi and shower, and found "Cocoa Butter Lotion." Checked out the ingredients- all are extremely safe, even if consumed and are all natural.

I let Capuchi's skin get fairly dry, and dabbed a bit on the troubled area's of shedding. He basked under the heat lamp, and when I returned to see if there was any progress, ALL his skin was shed. Was kind of skeptical, so I tried it on Cobalt too who was just going through a shed and he had a fully body shed within a day! Usually it can take him up to 2 weeks. Their skin appears more beautiful and healthy than ever! Just wondering if it really was the lotion, or if it was just my lucky day! Thanks!

Michele

I don't know if it's the coco butter, but if there were any moistureisers in it, it should work.

Chameleon skin isn't that much different than ours, just layers of keratin. Added moisture will help them shed it. I've used a few moisturizers on them in th epast, and had pretty much 100% results with all that I've tried.

Our pardalis had a bad shedding problem on his head, he'd always have unshed skin there, and it would build up and get nasty. We tried increasing the humidity, but it never did anything.
One of my friend's mothers reccomended mineral oil. We put a little on the top of his head, and within a few hours (maybe sooner, but we didn't check for a while) it just cam eoff like mashed potatos.

I know people recommend this and for a small area and infrequently it is OK, but mineral oil actually dries the skin after prolonged and/or excessive use (like oiling down your whole cham).

Olive, almond and jojoba oil are the closest to the natural oils in the skin. Olive contains a constituent called squalene which is naturally occuring in our sebum, sharks livers and other organisms.
