Loki's new habit

Crizzi27 Jan 29, 2006 09:30 PM

Well for those of you who like cute little stories of others’ monitors, here is mine. My larger monitor Loki realized that he could climb up my leg when I am sitting to get on to my lap a couple of weeks ago. Almost every night I allow my two savannahs to roam around the bathroom supervised. I do not keep them together. Usually they run around check things out, walk over each other, and then go to sleep. Since he has learned that he can climb onto my lap, he now does this every time when he is ready for a nap. I just thought it was cute, he is not a monitor that minds to be handled, and now I think that he has developed a taste for it. For those of you who are going to criticize my husbandry and the conditions I keep them in to justify his actions, he is on a bathroom floor, it is so warm in there that you sweat after 5 minutes of sitting still, and the floor is just as warm, our apartment is above the boiler room. So it has nothing to do with the flooring, or the temperature, it is just something that I wanted to share with other people who enjoy their monitor’s little quirks. The picture is him half way up my leg.

Very Sweet!

BTW I know how you feel about the criticism. If I posted a message on this board saying...
"My dog ,spot, sometimes like to lick my face, or he licks my hand when I pet him"
I would receive messages telling me that his diet obviously lacked salt , sodium or potassium, and this was his desperate cry for help.
I do value this board, and there are some great people here (95%).

PS My savannah crawls and sleeps on me too.

I agree with you this forum had me convinced that I was getting a look but don't touch pet in my 3 blue spot timor monitors. After they have been with me for a little while now they are used to me enought that all but one (the smallest) will even initiate contance with me and seem to like being touched and one even likes to sit on my shoulder for short periods of time . So while there is a GREAT deal of VERY good info on this forum there are some who just want to point out the worst about the differant species of monitor. *shrug* not sure if they are trying to help you know what you are getting into or just want to make sure you have all the info they think you need but it is not always right. It is mostly the individual monitor and your care of them that will make or break your experiance with these WONDERFUL reptiles.

Heck yeah dude! I love to see people really taking interest in a reptiles personality. My old savannah Scar before he passed on(R.I.P. Buddy!) he use to always lay on my lap and i'd feed him turkey that i was eating, and he'd just take it right from my hand no aggression, no worries of my fingers being taken with it, lol. Infact my Black Throat I have now, when i let him run around in my living room he always ends up going under my blanket on the couch and going to sleep. And no worries my house is kept at around 84 degrees throughout the day, he just really has a facination with my blanket lol. so here is a pic of him right before he goes to sleep and while he sleeps in my blanket, enjoy!

i think its great you take the time to hang out with your herps and learn the diffrent personalities they have. i used to have an iggy who was free roam when i was home with him, it was great the day he decided he wanted to get on my moms lap when she was over, she just sat there frozen LOL good thingit wasent my sav. she would have passed out!

BTW-its to bad you have to defend yourself and your care of them just to post a cute pic and talk about a cute habbit
