I think most of the arboreal monitors are pretty nervous. Arboreal snakes are like that too and maybe it's just part of living in a tree. If you can find someone selling a TAME cb Timor monitor, that would pretty much be perfect for you, but tame Timor monitors are very very rare. And you can't buy one and expect to tame it with much sucess. I've had mine for well over a year and he won't even let me LOOK at him, let alone pick him up. Other than Timors, most small arboreal monitors tend to be wild caught anyway.
If you're willing to give up the 'tree' part, you would probably very much enjoy an Ackie.
