Ball Python Rack similar to Markus Jayne's rack...

uf_g8or Jul 25, 2003 09:02 PM

I am going to construct a rack similar to the one that Markus Jayne has on his website. I have been looking for sheets of melamine to use to build around my tubs but haven't had any luck in finding big sheets or the dimensions I need.

However, I did find sheets of solid pine that are perfect size and density that would be great to use and are fairly priced. I was just wondering how the pine would hold up with heat and humidity. Would I have to seal the pine and coat the wood with a clear coat of sealent? And would this work??

I have never used pine for building a rack, so any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Actually, you do not HAVE to use melanamine(sp?). What you can do is use regualar plywood, and cover it with 'showerboard'. It is about 1/8" thick and is use in showers. You can seal the corners with a silicone sealant to make it water tight. This is a heck of a lot cheaper than melamine(sp?). Instead of $40 a sheet you would pay, maybe, $15 - $20 a sheet. If you can afford the other, go for it. Personally I think the shower board works just as well, and holds heat just as well.
