Anything that would do ok in a 5 1/2 gallon?

mom2autumnnreign Jan 30, 2006 08:25 AM

So, I got this little 5 1/2 gallon viv...and I was thinking about making a little natural setting out of it...I was wondering if there is anything that would do ok in a cage that small? If not cool just wanted to ask...BTW anyone know where I could buy a 24X18X12 viv?

small pacman frog, 2-3 house geckos or anoles, small leapord gecko, 1-2 small firebellied toads/newts.
depends on whether you are looking for an open air screen vivarium or an all glass aquarium, exo-terra has good terriums about that size and most local pet stores should carry a tank about that size, like a 20 high would be just about that size and a 29 high would be just a little bigger at 30 x 12 x 18. if you want a tank that is wider and longer than it is higher than you would be looking at a 30, 40, or 50 gal breeder tank.
hope this helps

Please do not put 2-3 house geckos or anoles in a 5 1/2 gallon! Especially not anoles.

A tank of that size would be fine for one of either of these, but more than that is too many. These animals do best with much more space than many people think. Look at some of the latest anole and house gecko care sheets on the internet and you will find that they are not nearly as easy to care for properly as is often assumed.

And another tip (the most important): Whatever you decide to put in your tank, research it a ton. I usually spend 2-3 weeks or more researching a new animal online and in books before I get it. There is no such thing as researching a new animal too much.

Oh, I wasnt planning on getting more then one animal for that small of a tank anyway....I just wanted to know if there was one of a single animal that would be ok in a tank that small.

Late, I know, but another suggestion: An African Dwarf Frog maybe?
