Sick Maylasian Leaf Frog

jastaherp Jan 30, 2006 08:54 AM

I just got a maylasian leaf, or maylasian horned frog as some call it a few weeks ago. Two days ago the horns above his eyes began to droop down and actually partially cover his eyes. I was wondering if this is an indication of illness, and that if it is what I can do to help him. There aren't really any vets that treat herps around where I live, but if need be I will drive him to one. Thanks!

I can not say what this would be an indication of, but it is certainly not normal. I have had a difficult time getting these guys to acclimate to captivity as well. They are often loaded with pinworms, and this is likely the cause, or one of the causes, of your frog's lethargy. I would make the trip to the vet, and if at all possible, take a fecal sample with you (even if it is from the other frog, both frogs are likely infested with similar intestinal parasites... Good luck!

The thing is...he is acting okay otherwise. He doesn't show any other signs of illness...though I am having trouble finding a stool sample. I will probably end up driving him to a vet.
