Hello from a newbie!

Liann Jan 30, 2006 12:59 PM

Well, at least new to boas and this forum! (I have been "lurking" for a few weeks) I am currently waiting on pins and needles for this trio of boas coming this week. I thought a hello was in order as I'm sure I will be back here with many questions despite trying to read every care sheet and boa care book I could get my hands on in preparation.

Just a little personal info - I'm 27 and live in PA. I've loved snakes since elementary school when they had two herpetologists (husband & wife) do a program on snakes and birds of prey. I wish I knew who that couple was that came and did the program, they had a huge impact on all of us kids! Seeing and being able to touch the snakes they brought with them helped make me not afraid of them and I actually asked my mom for one at age 7. Unfortunately, my mom was terrified of snakes! It has only been since getting married and moving into my own home that I was able to finally get into snakes.

I currently have milks, corns, & balls - (this will be my first season breeding balls). Hubby just recently helped me finish our basement and make it into a reptile room - so life is good!

about how you first got into snakes!!!! Excellent!

Those are some beautiful Colombians, and i've seen few here and there with that look...
If I may ask, where did you get them from? Breeder or lineage would be great...

Looks like you have your hands full with that list of animals you have there! I know those 2 ferrets alone should be more than a handful!

Well, take care, thanks for posting - Joe Rollo - Bci Joe

Thank you Joe! Someday, I would love to be able to do educational presentations at local schools so that some more kids can grow up to not be afraid of snakes too. Until then, I have 12 nieces and nephews that love coming to my house to see my snakes. Several of my nieces are already begging their mom’s for baby ball pythons! My sisters are not thrilled at all at their children's new found "appreciation" for reptiles!

Yes, I do have quite the menagerie! A large amount of the snakes are young female bp's that I am raising up and most of my corns are just hatchlings, but it is still a handful! Luckily, I have been able to convince my husband that snakes are a good thing (he would not even touch them at first!) and he now helps out a lot with the cleaning and feeding. We also raise quite a number of rats and mice on the side too!

As far as the lineage, I am getting the boas from Shawna at Refined Reptiles. They were actually bred by other breeders though. I have the names at home and cannot think of them off the top of my head, but I will send them to you later or post them here.

Thanks! I have to give Shawna the credit for the photos though. I'll post some of my own as soon as I get them all settled in.

Looks like one I used to own. Mine was from Barry Miller. Welcome to the forum. Nice to dilute a little bit of the testosterone here.
