HELP!!!!!!! Just noticed something wrong with my burmese' s eyes?!?!?!?!

knottydread Jan 30, 2006 06:20 PM

I have a male burmese, have had him for 1.5 years old....

Just noticed within the last 2 weeks that his eyes have gone really hazey... I already shed 2 weeks ago, so I'm wondering if there is something seriously wrong with him..

He has a fresh, good looking coat of skin still, everything looks healthy except the silvery whitish coat over his eyes.. He is active... I feed him once a month,,, maybe he just needs to eat more?!?

Will post pictures asap...

Please help!

Good point,

First, you might want to get a good look at the eye. While I might be correct on this, I might also be wrong. Personally, I think it's the eyecaps. If it is the case, you can try placing the snake in a warm, wet pillow case for about 30 minutes or so. Allow the snake to soak half way decent and then you can try taking a cotton swabbed Q-tip (wet one) and GENTLY rub the skin of the eye in a circular motion. Depending on the size of the snake, you might want to have someone help you to restrain the snake sufficiently. If you dont feel comfortable in doing it, I would recommend taking it to someone who is, or a reptile qualified vet.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks man, Jake, my snake, looks a lot better in my opinion... my room mate says that they still are looking a little dry...

had him in a warm pillow case for around 20 minutes.. had to keep running warm water over it because it kept getting cold... trying to get some pictures, cant find my digi..

Also know that retained eyecaps alone are not a major medical concern. If that is the problem, and if the aforementioned treatment does not help, the you should be able to address the problem at the next shed. In any event, you will want to monitor humidity carefully at that time especially and examine the old skin to confirm a complete shed.

Yeah, after a day passed, really didn't notice that much of a change.. I'm sure after his next shed he will be alright...
