Is this normal?!

dyskrasia Jul 25, 2003 09:55 PM

I only now learned that you shouldn't keep a water bowl in a beardie's tank, but I didn't know that before today. His tank was never really that humid, so I'm not sure if that's the problem. The problem is that I went to check on my beardie Sid a moment ago and he had jumped into the water (it's very shallow, not even past his shoulders) and was trying to sink himself in it. He would go under as far as he could, blink, and start making scratching, kicking gestures at his head, like he was trying to kick his own face. What is he doing?! Usually if I come toward the tank he'll look up and run or something, but he saw me come right up to the cage to observe his weird (and new to me, maybe not to you?) behavior, and he continued doing the scratchy swimmy thing. He did this for like 5 minutes before I got antsy and opened the wire lid to the tank, where it was like he snapped out of it and ran to the other side. Please tell me this is normal! If so, what the heck is he doing? Thanks in advance

they usually do that to loosen skin on their face or sometimes there is water in the ear and it tickles. I ALWAYS keep some water in all the dragons tanks to drink and for humidity. Then each gets sometime in their pool, some just to soak for 15 minutes a few times a week, more than half of ours love to swim (and underwater too) and one will spend 3-4 hours in her pool a few times a week, just swimming circles in her pool.

CheriS, thats an awesome idea. Its warm enough here to get a pool and let my dragons swim. Wonderful!
Thanks, again,
Karen
