usable commercially available soil?

groundskeeper24 Jan 31, 2006 02:42 AM

I've been looking to find some safe soil to use for an ackie substrate. I bought some pottting soil w/o fertilizer and took it back after reading that in some localities it may be composed partly of composted pine. There was also a "water retention agent" added that I wasn't ready to trust w/ my monitor. I can't seem to locate anything that doesn't have additives that make me unsure. I'm thinking of maybe some cactus/succulent potting soil, which is in short supply in my neck of the woods right now.
Thanks for any help.

potting soil doesn't work well for ackies. Sandy loam is prefered. I would go for something you dug up from outside over anything store bought.

This is the soil I use, it is eroded from a ridge made of sandstone.

Good luck,
Steve
