overdue female and incubating questions

twofrogsnchams Jan 31, 2006 10:40 AM

my first female laid eggs on day 35, 5 days late! and now Yoko, is at day 31....grrrrr. is this common for female veileds to go past 30 days? so far Yoko is healthy and acting normal. The past week her appetite has gone down to only 3-5 bugs a day. I think she has been checking out her nesting site too. but i'm not sure. is this normal?

also, does anyone out there have experience with incubating veiled eggs at cooler temps? so far at night the temp dips to 66-67 F and during the day it usually makes it to 72F. any advice on this? will it work? also, i lost 3 eggs so far to mold. they were completely shrivled and moldy. i cut a small slit in them and out came a milky yellow substance with orange in it. i'm guessing it was not fertile?

i read somewhere that someone used a 7 watt night light bulb to incubate. but wont the light disturb the eggs? or can i try this and see? thanks!

Ray

There is a really good overview article on laying and incubating veiled eggs on the Chameleons e-zine site that will pretty much answer your questions. It's in a past issue, but the whole site is really worth a read. Here's the site:
