Stains on PVC cages

herpluver Jan 31, 2006 11:05 PM

ok, so i recently purchased 3 used cages comstructed of PVC sheets. these are nice cages crafted very well. the only problem is they have dark stains all over the floors. it truely looks like the feces stained the floors.

is this a common problem with PVC cages? i have several neo cages and have never had this problem. i will not name the company that made these cages unless it becomes relavant to the discussion

I think it totally has to do with the manufacture of the PVCX sheeting itself not the manufacture of the cage. I have some cages with PVCX panels in them and those cages have exactly what you describe.

Others on the forum have mention that this is a common problem with Sintra. I don't know for sure. I imagine the glossy product would be less likely to stain the panels I used were some what rough.

I have heard of this happening with white expanded PVC cages. I'm pretty sure that I have heard of this happening with more than one brand of PVCX, but I'm not 100% sure as cage companies often change products.

this happend if the cage is not made with a closed cell pvc. The pvc that cause this problem is a bit rough to the touch and the color look flat. It has no barrier to prevent the water and urate to penetrate the materiel. The expanded pvc cages that will not stain are made with a pvc that has a finish that is a little bit glossy and textured. (i know celtec and simona brand doesnt stain, and sintra brand do stain).

I know one of the the major company, that supposedly know everything about plastic caging..."not to name them..." is using that meterial since they began making cages. I often see people posting pics of their cages and you can see all the stain spot and water spot in the cages....

Something to think about when you buy new cages...
