Found a new freind in the yard yesterday!!

kyfrogger Feb 01, 2006 10:14 AM

I was watering my plants yesterday when I noticed a full grown Breaded Dragon. She was enjoying my plants as much as me. She wasnt afraid of me at all. So I picked her up and made a new home for her using a 50gal tank I had laying around. She ate some crickets within the first hour she was in her new home. I just finished making her some veggies. She hasnt seemed interested in those yet. I have read alot the past day on how to care for her. But any other tips would be great. I just hope someone is looking for her, and she wasnt just dropped off because someone couldnt care for her. THanks
Shawn

can't imagine he wandered all that far from his home so I am sure someone is looking for him (unless you live in Australia.) so maybe asking vets, pet stores and posting a flyer. Probably one very sad beardie keeper!

there are some great sites with good info - here are two

Very nice 'stray'. If you don't actually live in Australia, most likely it is somebody else's pet, either one that was dumped, or escaped. Deffinitely ask around your neighbourhood if anybody lost their pet lizard. If they don't want it back or nobody claims they lost their bearded dragon, guess that means you can keep it. Deffinitely ask around, either in person (I really don't think he would have wondered far from his previous home), or u sing posters or found ads in the newspaper. Most newspapers will run lost/found posts free of charge, or at a small fee.

If you do live in Australia, I think they have laws about taking in the local wildlife as pets, You will have to look into that to know for sure. Giving how yellowish it looks, I suspect it's a lost pet..though bearded dragons do occur with that coloration in the wild.

If it is wild, you should let it go. I personally dont think its right to take in a wild animal and keep it. I just think when theyre wild they should be left be. Like said, it can be a lost pet, and you should ask around to see if someone lost their pet, I know if I lost my girl I would be very upset.

Most likely a lost pet from a hurricane or an escape. Florida has great weather for beardeds and I would imagine they could survive quite some time outside on native insects and vegitation. Good luck with her.
