Feeding response & relation to sheding..

vwjoe76 Feb 01, 2006 12:40 PM

Hello everyone,
Quick question...has anyone had problems with their snake eating while their in any phase of the shed? My female(6 months old) woould not eat during her "pre-opaque eyes" phase and has continued to off-feed for about the last week. Not concerned, she's very healthy, just curious. Thanks all...Joe

personally i do not offer food until the shed is complete. i do not offer food during blue phase nor after prior to sheding. unless it has been a long time after the last meal i usually wait another day after shedding to offer food. i have never had any problems with feeding in relation to shedding (before or after). i just do not feel it is necessary to add the stress of feeding onto the stress of shedding. i have found that when an animal is offered food during the shed cycle, it ofen leads to a more difficult shed (not always but often). for this reason i avoid it and have seen no ill effects.
