Breeding w/o Cooling

APLAXAR Feb 01, 2006 12:46 PM

has anyone here ever just put two corns together and had them breed and produce? i was going to do a short cooling period for them but i just dont have a good place to do it, i was thinking worst comes to worse just put them in the closet of my reptile room and shut the door and keep the apartment temp down, any feed back or suggestions would be great

You can do that, but your fertility may be low. Your best bet would be getting a thermometer and checking temperatures - you might be surprised how cold it is on the floor next to an outside wall.

By the way, it's a little late to be brumating snakes, most breeders are bringing them out of brumation this month.

i would introduce them right after the female has her next shed.i have had mine to breed without cooling & it cause lower fertility. Good Luck anyway !

I know some people don't approve, but we've kept our two snakes mostly together. The first three years we had them (and we got them as adults) the female double clutched each year. (In fact, they're appart now primarily for birth control purposes (and to give her a break), as we still have 21 babies from last year (out of a total of 45). We didn't cool them at all (they're pets, and lived in a tank in my sons room (63-70 year round, for the cool (non-heated side)). We've had a couple infertile/non-hatching eggs each clutch, and twice a baby has hatched and died immediately thereafter (but that's out of well over 100 babies).
