I knew my female box turtle had eggs in her and after keeping her in an enclosure with moist soil and a heat lamp for 2 weeks she finally laid 5 of them January 29!
Below is a picture of her a few days ago digging a test hole. It wasn't deep enough so I added a few more inches of soil.
I felt for eggs in her this afternoon and was surprised to find there was nothing there. She is a fast layer as I didn't catch her in the act of digging and laying the 5 eggs. So I dug under the heat lamp where she dug her test hole earlier and found them. I now have them in a cool whip container with moist vermiculite "cooking" in a hovabator incubator at around 80F.
I am really hoping these are fertile as she had mated with her mate numerous times. I will keep you updated. You may remember this female as I had posted pictures of her when I received in October 2005. She has a severe shell injury which fully healed long ago. I have also posted a picture of the injury.
