Eryx is a genus of nonvenomous boas found in southeastern Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East and southwestern Asia. Eight species are currently recognized. The majority of these snakes spend much of their time basking below the surface of the sand, with only their eyes or head exposed on the surface. When a potential prey item approaches, they erupt out of the sand, bite and employ constriction to subdue it. Adults rarely exceed two feet in length , although they sometimes reach 3 feet . Adapted to burrowing, their heads are wedge-shaped with narrow nostrils and very small eyes. Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of Sand Boas.
