The Mexican kingsnakes Lampropeltis ruthveni and Lampropeltis mexicana, and it's subspecies, are often mistaken for Lampropeltis alterna their neighbor to the north, but the Mexicana complex of kingsnakes are distinctly different yet just as colorful. All are moderately sized snakes, with a relatively wide head, and have large eyes with round pupils. Usually saddled or banded with red or orange bordered in black on a gray, blue-gray or green-gray background. Like alterna, these kingsnakes can also be picky feeders as hatchlings. Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of these kingsnakes.
