Pogona are a genus of lizards containing seven species, which are often known by the common name bearded dragons. Living in the arid, rocky, semi-desert regions and dry open woodlands throughout Australia, they are adept climbers, spending time on branches and in bushes, and often found on fence posts when living near human habitation. Pogona bask on rocks and exposed branches in the mornings and afternoons. Several species of this genus, especially Pogona vitticeps, are often kept as pets or exhibited. A typical captive bearded dragon's diet consists mostly of leafy greens and vegetables, supplemented regularly with insects . Pogona have an average life span of 10-12 years, although some have been known to live longer. Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of Bearded Dragons.
